Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice, and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do. It’s not about winning and losing; it’s about every day hard work and about thriving on a challenge. But with drive and passion, it’s possible to achieve the dream.

Born and raised in a tight knit Italian family in Toronto, Chef Phyllis’ training commenced at an early age in her mother’s kitchen.  Moving to Vancouver in 1994, she then in 1996 studied and completed her Culinary Apprenticeship mentored by Chef Peg Montgomery of the legendary Delilah’s.  The Apprenticeship allowed Chef Phyllis to train in a variety of settings in the hospitality industry.

Her contribution to Vancouver restaurants for the past 15 years has been unprecedented, not only working in them but also on a consulting basis.  Such as Royal Vancouver Yacht Club, Mescalero, Bin 941 & Bin 942 earning the distinguished Vancouver Magazine Restaurant award 2001-2006, Cobre, and Les Faux Bourgois.

Chef Phyllis’ proudest achievement was creating and conceptualizing her own business model Mangal Kiss Middle Eastern BBQ during the initiation and introduction of food trucks to the city.  For the last 5 years her commitment to healthy eating, nutrition, and offering innovative foods has furthered her gastronomic passion.

With great excitement and deep inspiration, Chef Phyllis joins Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts to continue her culinary craft, knowledge, and guidance as an instructor.
